H is for Hat, H is for Hedgehog

Mummy was on leave today. We had a good start for the week by doing lots of arts and craft that begins with the letter H.

H is for so many things...but we did a few easier ones...We made a hat, drew a hedgehog and i gave mummy a heart full of pom poms.

Hat made by aunty ruby cos mummy doesnt know how to make...LOL

Used handprints to make the spikey prickly hedgehog's body...

Hahah my hairchair becomes my drying rack..

Finally, a heart full of pompoms.

Done....wow....

Yeah, clap clap...

Fun Activities in a Bag

Just to show you what reuse and recycle means in our house, I will show you a sample of darling's items.

Mummy found some travel bags and laundry bag that she collected from her biz trips. She reused them and they became darling's learning kits! We have different bags for different learning tools. See....

Every night, darling will bring one of these bags to mummy to play together. We have "match the colour", "match the animals", "match the shapes", "find the items", stacking, cooking, musical instruments, etc.....

We even have toys that mummy made herself. We used sterofoams, cardboards, paperclips, leaves, stones, etc to play diferent games. You just need some creativity and imagination! I am sure you will have fun too....

G is for Guitar, G is for Go

Over the weekends, mummy and I made a Guitar. Mummy asked daddy what does G stand for? and Daddy said "Guitar". So we made one! We used the Cheerios box, coloured paper and yarn.

First mummy cut out the shape of the guitar, punched holes on the ends so that we can put on the yarn as the guitar strings. Darling is incharged of sticking the pieces together. There are 2 layers of cardboard to make it stiffer. Then mummy string the yarn through the holes. Viola, a DIY guitar is done.

We moved on to make a Go & Stop signs. After making these, we played the Go & Stop games. When mummy says GO...I will continue to walk. When she held up the Stop sign, Darling stopped! Yes, it was fun.

Are u ready?

Goooooooo....

Darling will throw away the Go sign when mummy says Go. LOL....

Lesson 1 @ Julia Gabriel

My first lesson @ Julia Gabriel. Has been waiting very long for this term to start. We were at the long waiting list and now finally able to attend the FIRST official "school".

Mummy enrolled darling in JG Bilingual Playclub on every Saturday 11:30am.

Knock knock may I come in? Taking my first step into my classroom.

Lots of toys awaiting for us. While we were waiting for all parents to arrive, we get to play with huge lego blocks, animals, helmets, and many more...

Darling went and grabbed the biggest and heaviest Rhino.

Small aligator...

Done with animals, moving on to shapes...

All sort of fun hats...darling wanna get the fireman hat, but was snatched away by another kid...hmmmm...anyway i am happy with these...

Guess who am I now? Adorable policewoman?

JG class starts at 11:30am, should be my milk time and orh orh time...shall have a snack first before the class starts....

Guess what? Mummy was impressed with darling. When teacher Rino called my name, I went up to get my name tag from him. Mummy thought darling will be shy and wouldnt dare to go forward. But mummy was wrong. When my name was called, I went forward without being told. Heeee....seee....

Lesson started and it was entertaining. We first have some sing-along sessions...followed by phonics. Today it was the letter D. D for dragon. And because I am attending bilingual class, we were taught what is Dragon in chinese. It's called Long!
Then we were taught how to make a dragon crown and also a dragon banner.

My DIY Dragon Crown.

Dragon banner

My chinese name. This is my first time using my chinese name.

Okie, after arts & crafts, we had snacks. Teacher Hong is serving darling some apple juice. Yummmm...

We had corn flakes, sausages and papaya. Darling doesnt like sausages and papaya. I gave to mummy.

Mummy, you want some?

Wow, mouthful of flakes in darling's mouth...so not ladylike. LOL....

Okie, after some reminders from mummy, I will be demure. Is this okie, mummy?

Putting my crown on the drying rack. Waiting for the glue to dry up.

After snack was story telling time. It's a chinese story about a dog who lost his ball, and the flying dragon came to help him. After that, it was outdoor fun. Darling loves this police car. Wouldnt let mummy open the door. No way is she going to get me out of this car.
My oh my, darling is driving a police car.

Gonna chase after that thief.
Err, hey my car stalled....
Come and help me, mummy!

Okie, I was having so much fun in that police car for a whole 5 mins, mummy got to drag darling out of the car to play with other stuff at the yard.
Hey, motorbike is even more fun than the police car. I was having so much fun because.....
my poor mummy was so worried that darling will topple from the bike. Lol.....seeing her going "wow, ohhhh, wooooooo careful darling!", darling couldnt helped but LAUGH!

Heeee, was fun mummy!

Okie we moved on to the slides.

Hey wat is this?

Wat can I see through this? My mummy is over there!

@ Julia Gabriel

Darling gonna make pineapple tarts. Daddy's favourite! Shall we just dump the whole pineapple in?

Back to class for another round of fun and action. Look at how engrossed are the kids!

Overall, I find that the first lesson was structured, organized and entertaining. Of course, mummy is not able to capture all the moments we had in the class. We were too busy doing the actions and listening to the exciting story. And being in the bilingual class does help. At least mummy get to learn how to sing "Incy Wincy Spider" in chinese!!!!!!
I think darling is very occupied during the whole 2 hours. Although the first 15-20 mins was abit chaotic because the teachers were busy checking our hands and foot for HFMD, getting to know our names, doing registration, etc....overall, mummy and I like the school.

My First Complete Set of Chinese Books

Is it really very difficult to learn chinese? At least, my mummy is finding it difficult to teach darling chinese. So wat is the solution? My first complete set of chinese books. This series is the best of all that mummy has reviewed. It's simple and best of all, darling is loving it. Every night, darling will lie on the bed and listen to mummy's story telling.

Treasure Hunting

Let's see what we are going to find today. Mummy hide a few sets of items under the black beans. See if darling can find all the items.

First, she hide 4 sharks in the pile. Next, 4 insects...these are the small animals from Safari wild toobs. They are small enough to hide under the beans...Finally, 4 colours shapes....darling found all of them...

Guess the only one that was difficult to find was the Scorpion...It's black in colour...darling found it with some hints from mummy.

Fun Activities

Don't know what to do with your little ones? All you need to do is some creativity and TIME. Mummy is glad that she is spending her quality time with her darling every night.

Today, we made sail boats. The one in pink is made by daddy, the one in black is by mummy. Darling prefers the one made by daddy. Nicer and doesnt sink. Heee....

Seee, darling is doing blow blow action, to make the boats move.

National day is around the corner. Mummy taught darling about national anthem and singapore flag. I've seen the flag in flashcards, but today, i am making one singapore flag.

Saw the 5 stars? Heee, darling anyhow paste.

Neh....another PRIZE!!

Another prize...even figo is full of envy. Wuahahah....

Planting Flowers

Planting flowers is so fun. This week we are at the alphabet F. F for flowers. Mummy thought of a brilliant idea. She needed some flowers to decorate her plants. So darling helped her to draw some pretty flowers.

Nice?

Done by Little Princess....

Mummy bought a new hair band for herself. But darling gets to wear it first. Heeee...

Matching Animals

Darling has been doing these games for quite awhile. All thanks to mummy. She has been busy researching, learning, preparing these activities just for her little princess. Main purpose is to create bonding through these games, and of course, to ensure darling dont waste precious time doing nothing.

Mummy decided to takes pics of what darling has been learning at home and share with her friends (fans of my blog). Hope their babies can enjoy some fun activities just like darling does.

Smile, darling is able to match these animals without effort. Less than a minute and it's done.

Putting straws into Coke bottle. Look at how focus am I.

Gonggong, ahma, yiyi and us went to No Signboard @ Vivocity to celebrate Father's day. We gave gonggong a present, hope he likes it.

Recently, mummy has this habit of making darling wears the clip at the side. She thinks darling looks extremely cute this way. Now that darling is geting bigger, putting clip on the fringe looks childish to her. Hahahah, mummy, I am still a baby!

Happy 18mths Old

Time flies....darling is 18mths old already! Once again, Mummy was emo. She was looking through birth video and pictures just to recap those moments when I first came into her life. 18mths have passed and here I am a toddler and soon to advance onto the well-known stage of Terrible Two.

Meanwhile, enjoy my sweet innocent....

Alphabets - Letter D

Darling loves to play with the glue. The whole paper is full of glue. But glad when asked her where is the letter D, she knows which one is letter D (among the A B C which are pasted on the wall).

Let's Have a Drink!

Mummy bought darling a set of drinking cups and glasses. They are made of plastics and arent they cute and adorable? It's kids size!

Darling having a drink with mummy! Yummm....

Darling is still very good in drinking from a cup. Still practising...Cheers, mummy!

More cooking time!

We played cooking again today! With ingredients! Today, I am making carrot fried egg! Mummy wants darling to practise my pincer grip and scooping! Was fun. Mummy enjoyed the most. Seeing darling able to pick up the tiny diced carrots and scooping them up with spoon, mummy couldnt be more than happy!

My new toy, Dora. Got it at the zoo! Nice!

Zoo

Went to the zoo today! Failed to tour the zoo few weeks back because darling was scared after viewing 3 animals...

Guess darling was scared of the environment. Today, darling sat on the pram throughout the trip. Was fine!

Scared of the carousel! Wuahaha didnt want to sit on any of the animals. Ended up on the carriage seat!

Customized Tee! Mathew's Nicole ....cool?

Ask darling "Where is your nose" in chinese, seee darling got it right!

Saturday, June 13, 2009

So Sweeeeeeeet! Really melts my heart!

Something sweet happened today. Shall let mummy tell you this herself!

Mummy: "We went to buy groceries with darling today. On the way back, it was drizzling and I told daddy to walk faster as he was carrying darling.

I told daddy:" Remember to cover nicole's head." Daddy did so. Then when we were back under our block. Darling wants me to carry her. So I did. She still thought there was rain and she used her hand to cover her head. ANDDDDDDD.....she used her the other hand to cover my head too.

Isn't that amazing? I was so touch. My darling is soooooo sweet! She doesnt want mummy to get wet too! Oh My! I am so impressed and happy that my darling is such a dear!

I am really happy and glad that I am so blessed. Thank you Lord."

Darling WON!

Busy busy weekends! Mummy brought darling to shop around and "played games". LOL
What sort of games are available for toddlers right? You might think. Hahha , this is the game tat darling will play almost everyday!

This machine requires you to pull the lever and let go so that the balls can eject and get slot into the holder. To win, it needs you to align the balls in a straight line! Guess it requires alot of luck to do this!

Darling has been playing this for a while and today.........ta ta....darling WON! Darling won something. It's Hello Kitty sticker. Cool right?

See....

My first prize!

Wuahahahah...mummy was so excited that she has to take pics of this. LOL...

The Odyssey Creative Learning Centre

A BIG GRIN....YEAH! Decision has been made!

After a long process of searching ( after much thoughts, consideration, discussions), daddy and mummy decided to send darling to this childcare, The Odyssey.

http://www.theodyssey.sg/article/view/The-Odyssey-A-Learning-Journey.htm

Darling went to view the premises and met up with the teachers and friends there. Was fun.

These are the few key points that helped us made the decision:

1. MCYS teacher : student ratio = 1:4 (thumbs up)
2. Teacher - excellent, well-spoken teachers (key point)
3. Principal - friendly, open, knows all the children's names in her school
4. Programme - project-based teaching
5. Premises - clean, neat, spacious
6. Fees - definitely on the high side, but mummy will monitor for a few months and see how well darling copes in class

Extra key points that mummy noticed:- friends from all different cultures

- shoes cabinets are labelled with children's names and pictures...so that the child knows where to put his/her shoes
- variety of food for the week
- spacious kitchen and mummy saw at least 3 helpers in the premises to ensure cleanliness, hygiene and food preparation
- toilets are equipped with children's basin and toilet seats...spacious and clean
- weekly feedback on the progress of the child

Hopefully, with the weekly JG and Odyssey classes, darling gets the interaction with kids of her age and learns the necessary skillsets and development.

Special Transports & Farm Animals

Special transports. Actually, instead of just seeing the picture of a dump truck, a helicopter, it is always good if baby can see the 3D image of the items. Of course, will be good if we can see the REAL ones. Anyway, mummy had a few ways to use these toys. Price of one, 3 ways of playing! Use a little bit of imagination and creativity, you can have fun too...Great!

Animal Farm

Watercolours

Playing with water colour. I am going to make a Father's day card. Heeee of course with mummy's help. But shhhhhh, don't tell daddy okie? It's going to be a surprise! Hahaha...daddy, you not reading this are u? LOL

Work Hard, Play Hard

Let's learn through play. That's mummy's motto when comes to educating darling. Though alot of effort is required (planning, preparation), what you get at the end of the day is worth every effort.

Mummy made a magic pen binder for darling today.

Darling playing with glitter glue. I made a mess out of it. Heee...

Mummy, darling is ready! Lets begin.

Matching colours...

Pigeons watching on a sunday morning!

Cooking time. Darling is learning how to beat an egg.

You wouldn't believe this. Darling was scared of egg. When mummy opened the fridge and asked darling to hold an egg, I will quiver.
Slowly, bit by bit, mummy tried to help darling over this. Now, darling can hold the egg on my hands.

Daddy, your scrabble egg will be ready in a minute.

Hog's Breath

Went to Toa Payoh for dinner tonight. We had dinner at Hog's Breath. Yummm, mummy loves the steak there. We had Hickory Steak, Mushroom Steak and Fish&Chips.

Getting all ready to GO...Like my SEVEN DWARFS tee? One of mummy's fav characters.

Practice makes Perfect

Previously, paints & flour really freak darling out. Darling dont even dare to touch paints and flour and will scream if mummy asks me to touch them.

Now, no more fear. In fact I hv learnt to love playing with paints and flour. Mummy has been very patiently trying to help darling overcome this fear. Guess it's the exposure and constant practice. Their hardwork really paid off. So now, no more fear!

Draw N Doodle

Mummy bought darling a few chalks for drawing. Instead of drawing on the corridors, mummy made a "portable" chalkboard for darling. It comes with a pouch for carrying the chalks. Thanks, mummy!

Growing up or what?

Is this part and parcel of growing up? Mummy is wondering where has her little girl gone? Reason for asking that is because recently darling has started to have a mind of her own. I will choose the pair of shoes that I wanna put on when we go out, the dress that I want to wear and which pants/shorts should mummy wear! If mummy give me the wrong pair of shoes, I will walk back to my shoe cabinet and choose the ones that I want! Hahaha....

So now mummy has learnt her lesson, she will ask darling which pair of shoes I wan or which dress I wanna wear for the day! Heeee....

Mummy: "I quite like the final product of the dress. Nice material and cute patterns! Hope darling will like it."

Darling is a Chef

You noticed that I have a new table and chair rght? Since I have started to do my "Know my Alphabets" exercise, mummy thought it is better to do all the writing and painting on a table. So, here they are...

And Mummy has always been wanting to get a kitchen set for darling. But those that we have seen are very ex. Yesterday, we happened to popby Ikea and found this kitchen set, pots & pans...very cheap...Heee, without hestitation, mummy bought it. Hahaha...

Darling is the chef....cool!

Mummy thought how can I be a chef without "ingredients". Heee, my mummy made some for me. In my collections, we have green leafy vegetables, mushrooms, fish, egg, bread, cheese, tomato...more to come.....
Oh of course we need a chef hat and apron right? Don't worry, how could my mummy forget these.....it's in the making...shall show u once done...mummy only have 24 hours and a pair of hands....lets wait patiently for her mastepiece....Mummy, I love you...Thanks for making so much effort!

One of mummy's colleagues' daugther is wearing a traditional dress called "Pavadai". Mummy thought darling might also look nice in it. Thus, asked her friend to get one dress for darling.

Alphabets - Letter B

Since mummy is on leave today, we started on the next letter, B.

Daring: "Are we starting our "Know our Alphabets" exercise?"

Busy colouring and pasting.

Mummy: "I simply love the way she looks so engross in putting the glue on and pasting"

Done.

Showing off my hardwork...

18mths Checkup

Went for checkup today! PD says darling is growing up healthily! Darling weighs 11.3kg and wth a height of 88cm. Mummy told PD about how darling is always scared of things like paints and sand. PD says it's normal and it could be because darling wasnt interacting with kids of her age. Thus, mummy and daddy made a decision! PLAYGROUP, here I come. Will be attending playgroup next month.

And with darling growing up with such an astonishing rate, mummy is scared of not being able to provide all the "nutrients" that the brain needs! She went to popular and spent a good whole 2 hours there sourcing for books, craft materials and DVDs.
The main focus is CHINESE. Mummy has not been teaching darling any mandarin yet. So far, darling only knows nose, eyes, ears in chinese. Mummy got to buck up and be persistent in speaking mandarin to darling. See, she ends up buying many chinese books. LOL...

Found this little dino book.

Of course, other than flashcards, storybooks, dvds, what a 18 mths old baby needs is handicraft. Mummy has a list of items to do together with darling. Too bad my mummy is not a full time stay at home mum, if not, I am sure she can do WONDERS together with darling. Well, I guess all of us just have to work extra hard to do the best that we can.

Catch up with Friends

Mummy and I joined some mummies for a short gathering at Sengkang. Here are some pics of me with Kyrell gor-gor.

Spy Pouch

When you have a crafty mum, not only u get to wear nice & unique dresses, you get to play fun toys too. Mummy saw this SPY POUCH thingy online, thought she could do one for her darling too.

Recently mummy bought darling this Wild 2 Mega Toob. Turned out that the items are too small. Then mummy had an idea to make spy pouch with these items in it. Smart right? Heee...

What Have I Learnt so far

Well, darling is now 17 mths old. What have I learnt so far? Guess mummy had a hard time remembering all the things that I know. Here are a few:

1. Imitation
I can now imitate many animals; lion/tiger, monkey, pig, cat, elephant, dog, and latest one, bumble bee. Mummy super duper likes the sound i make for bumble bee...because she couldnt figure out how darling makes the bumble bee sound! Wuahahaha....

2. Training pants
Been wearing training pants for a week or so. Still don't know how to tell mummy/ruby that my pants are wet. Will trying again this week.

3. Flashcards
My collections of flashcards is growing like mad. Mummy been diligently printing and making flashcards for her precious darling. Now darling knws continents, flags, cars models, and latest dinos..LOL mummy had a hard time learning those stupid dinos names, so hard to remember their weirdo names! Only daddy can make it. He knows all the dinos names.

4. Alphabets
Just started last week. Learning what is the letter A, and some items that begins with A. Schedule will be a letter each week.

5. Arts
Hmmm, darling is not having much improvements on arts! Darling is scared of paints! Anything that will get my hands and legs dirty, I will scream and cry! Helppppp! Mummy is at her wits too. Last week, mummy was trying to let darling do some fun with paints, darling screamed when she tried to ask me to touch the paints! Mummy will not be giving up. She is still trying to find ways to help darling overcome this fear.

6. Yes & No
Darling knows how to nod my head to indicate YES. 2-3 weeks ago, darling knows how to shake my head to indicate NO. Hahah, been using it quite often since. When mummy asks me to throw the banana peels into the rubbish bin, I will shake my head. Hahah, because I am too lazy to walk to the kitchen. Heeeee....

7. Dancing Feets

Guess darling really likes music. Always dance to the beat of the music and will stamp my feets upon hearing my favourite songs.

8. Shy

Darling understands what is shame shame to undress infront of others. There was once when mummy tried to remove my undies infront of daddy or yiyi or ahma (to get me ready for my swim), I screamed. I pulled back my undies and shaked my head! Then when mummy undressed me at yiyi's room, I am ok! That's how mummy knws that HER GIRL IS NOW BIG GIRL ALREADY.

These are a few things that mummy remembers. Will keep you updated once I have more progress.

Morning Exercise

Every weekends, mummy will bring darling for the morning walk. To see birds, to see plants and of course to my favourite place, the playground. It is there that I usually get to know a few new friends.

My new little friend. Come, shake hands!

Looks like a little cute couple!

Family Time

Today, we will be going to ahma's house for dinner. Of course, darling will be there for swimming too. Mummy bought a new float for darling. Now, darling can stand in the baby pool. The water level is up to my chest only. Hee, darling is getting taller each day!
Giving my mummy a hug before we go bathing.
